1. CHECK NEIGHBOURING PROPERTIES
If nearby homes or streetlights are also without power, there may be an Energex network outage affecting your area.

2. CHECK THE ENERGEX OUTAGE FINDER
Search your address on the Energex map.

Known outages are updated every 15 minutes.

ELECTRICAL EMERGENCIES WE RESPOND TO

COMPLETE OR PARTIAL POWER LOSS

If your home or business suddenly loses power while neighbouring properties still have electricity, the fault may be within your electrical installation or private electrical supply.

Complete or partial power loss can be caused by ruptured primary fuses, a failed main switch, burnt or damaged circuit protection, switchboard faults, damaged consumer mains, or damaged overhead electrical supply cables.

Severe weather can also cause electrical emergencies. Thunderstorms, strong winds and falling trees or branches can damage overhead cables, switchboards and electrical equipment, leaving the property without power or creating a potentially dangerous electrical fault.

If you notice burning smells, sparking, arcing, unusual noises, heat, damaged cables or visible electrical damage, keep clear and call an electrician. We can locate the fault, make the installation safe and carry out the necessary emergency electrical repairs.

STORM DAMAGE, EMERGENCY MAKE-SAFES & ENERGEX FORM 3 DEFECTS

Severe storms, cyclones, flooding and fallen trees can damage consumer mains, overhead electrical supplies, switchboards and other parts of a property’s electrical installation.

Where immediate repairs aren’t possible, we can isolate damaged circuits, equipment or electrical supplies and carry out an emergency make-safe to remove the electrical hazard and allow other repair work to proceed safely.

Where the electrical installation has been seriously damaged or is unsafe, Energex may disconnect your property from the network and issue a Form 3 defect notice.

At this point, you’ll need to engage a licensed electrical contractor to rectify the defects before the property can be safely reconnected to the network.

JAX Power Solutions regularly attends these situations across the Sunshine Coast. We can identify and repair the damaged electrical equipment or supply, complete the required testing, and rectify the defects identified on the Form 3.

Once the installation is electrically safe and ready for connection, we lodge the required documentation with Energex so your electrical supply can be reinstated.

BURNING SMELLS, ARCING & ELECTRICAL DAMAGE

Burning smells, sparking, arcing, buzzing or crackling sounds, melted power points and visible heat damage can indicate a serious electrical fault.

These problems can be caused by loose or deteriorated electrical connections, damaged wiring, overloaded circuits, faulty appliances, failed electrical equipment or faults within a switchboard.

If you notice smoke, burning smells or visible electrical damage, stop using the affected equipment and keep clear of the area. Do not continue resetting a circuit breaker or safety switch if it repeatedly trips.

We can locate and isolate the electrical fault, identify damaged wiring or equipment, make the affected area electrically safe and carry out the necessary emergency electrical repairs.

NEED AN EMERGENCY ELECTRICIAN ON THE SUNSHINE COAST?

Electrical emergencies don’t always have an obvious cause. You might have lost power to the entire property, have circuits that won’t reset, notice burning or arcing, or be dealing with electrical damage following a storm.

When you call JAX Power Solutions, we’ll establish what’s happening and determine the appropriate next step. We can also check for known Energex network outages before arranging attendance, helping avoid an unnecessary call-out where the problem is with the electricity network.

Where the fault is within your property, we can attend to test and locate the problem, isolate unsafe circuits or equipment, carry out emergency electrical repairs or make the installation safe until permanent repairs can be completed.

For storm damage, damaged consumer mains or Energex Form 3 defects, we can also carry out the required rectification and testing and coordinate the electrical requirements for reconnection.

Not sure if it’s an emergency? Give us a call and explain what’s happening.

EMERGENCY ELECTRICIAN FEES & ATTENDANCE

Emergency electrical work is different from a standard scheduled service because an electrician may need to be mobilised outside our normal onsite hours, often at short notice.

Our after-hours emergency service has a minimum attendance charge. Before an electrician is dispatched, we’ll explain the applicable charges and what they include so you can decide whether you would like us to proceed.

Before we dispatch an electrician

Calling us with an electrical problem does not automatically mean we’ll send an emergency electrician.

Before recommending an after-hours attendance, we’ll ask some questions about what has happened and work through the obvious possibilities with you. Where it is safe to do so, we’ll provide practical troubleshooting assistance over the phone and help determine whether the problem requires immediate electrical attention.

We don’t want to send an emergency electrician unnecessarily any more than you want to pay for one. If there is a safe temporary option that can get you through until standard onsite hours, we’ll explain it. If the problem cannot be safely resolved or left until then, we can arrange emergency attendance.

After-hours emergency attendance

Our emergency attendance charge includes mobilisation, travel and up to the first two hours of chargeable attendance time.

Additional time, parts and materials are charged separately where required.

The applicable emergency attendance rate will be confirmed with you prior to dispatch, so you know the cost and what is included before an electrician is mobilised.

Can it safely wait until standard hours?

If the situation does not require immediate after-hours attendance but still needs urgent attention, we also offer our Priority ONE service during standard onsite hours.

Priority ONE gives your job our first available priority appointment and may require us to reorganise existing scheduled work to prioritise your attendance.

Ask about Priority ONE if your electrical problem is urgent but can safely wait until standard onsite hours.

If you’re unsure whether you need an emergency electrician, call us first. Explain what has happened and we’ll help determine the safest and most appropriate next step
